Gift Acceptance Policy

At Nawlage is Power, we are deeply grateful for the generous contributions from our donors, which allow us to pursue our mission of empowering and uplifting children in our community by providing essential resources, opportunities, and support that foster their growth, development, and well-being. This Gift Acceptance Policy outlines types of gifts accepted and declined.


1. Purpose


The purpose of this Gift Acceptance Policy is to provide guidelines for the acceptance, management, and stewardship of charitable gifts made to Nawlage Is Power Inc. This policy ensures that gifts are handled in a manner that aligns with our mission, values, and legal and ethical standards.


2. General Policy


Nawlage Is Power Inc welcomes donations that support its mission is to empower and uplift children in our community by providing essential resources, opportunities, and support that foster their growth, development, and well-being. All gifts must comply with applicable laws and regulations and must not compromise the integrity, independence, or reputation of the organization.


3. Types of Acceptable Gifts


Nawlage Is Power Inc accepts the following types of gifts, subject to review and approval when necessary:


  • Monetary Donations – Cash, checks, credit card payments, electronic transfers, and cryptocurrency (if applicable).
  • Real Estate – Must be reviewed for marketability, environmental concerns, and liability before acceptance.
  • Tangible Personal Property – Items such as artwork, vehicles, equipment, or other assets will be accepted if they align with the nonprofit’s needs.
  • In-Kind Donations – Goods, services, or tickets that support the organization's programs and operations.
  • Planned Gifts – Bequests, charitable trusts, life insurance policies, and retirement plan designations.


4. Gift Review & Approval


Certain gifts require review and approval before acceptance, including:


  • Gifts that may impose financial, legal, or operational burdens.
  • Gifts with donor restrictions that may be difficult to honor.
  • Gifts of real estate, business interests, or tangible personal property.
  • Gifts that involve naming rights, endowments, or sponsorship agreements.


The Board of Directors or a designated Gift Acceptance Committee will assess these gifts on a case-by-case basis.


5. Restricted Gifts


Donors may designate gifts for specific programs or initiatives; however, restrictions must align with Nawlage Is Power Inc’s mission.


If a restricted gift cannot be used as intended, the organization will consult with the donor or use the funds in a manner that best aligns with the original intent.


6. Declining Gifts


Nawlage Is Power Inc reserves the right to decline gifts that:


  • Are inconsistent with the nonprofit’s mission or values.
  • Create financial or legal liability.
  • Carry conditions that are too restrictive or impractical.
  • Pose ethical concerns or reputational risks.


7. Donor Recognition & Stewardship


Nawlage Is Power Inc is committed to recognizing and stewarding donors appropriately, including:


  • Acknowledging gifts in a timely manner.
  • Providing tax receipts for eligible donations.
  • Honoring donor intent while maintaining financial flexibility.
  • Donors who wish to remain anonymous may request confidentiality.


8. Compliance & Reporting


Nawlage Is Power Inc will comply with IRS regulations and state laws governing charitable gifts.


  • Once our 501(c)(3) status is approved, the organization will issue appropriate tax documentation for all contributions. 
  • Any questions regarding gift tax deductibility should be directed to a tax professional.


9. Amendments & Policy Review


This policy will be reviewed periodically by the Board of Directors and may be updated as needed to reflect best practices and legal requirements.
